The faculty continued its education in Ankara University Faculty of Medicine until 1977. With the establishment of Akdeniz University in 1982, its name was changed to Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine. Basic Medical Sciences, Internal Medical Sciences and Surgical Medical Sciences are available in our faculty. There are 43 departments in these sciences. The medical education program of our faculty was accredited by UTEAK in Dec 2010 and took its place among the first accredited medical faculties in Turkey. as a result of the visit made in 2017, it has been re-accredited until 01.01.2023.
The basic sciences building is equipped with modem course tools and equipment such as modem laboratories, a large number of mock-ups for educational purposes, simulated patient laboratories, simulation laboratories. Theoretical and practical training is carried out in classrooms and laboratories with Problem-Based Learning (PDO) sessions and interactive methods. The main purpose of Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine is to train qualified physicians and specialists who will increase the health level of the society, comply with ethical rules, provide this education and enable the development of academics who conduct research on their subject, and provide health services at a universal level.
OUR HİSTORY
Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine was established in 1973 as Antalya Faculty of Medicine affiliated to Ankara University and continued its education at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine until 1977. since 1977, he has started to give basic medical education at the temporary medical faculty building in Topçular in Antalya. in 1981, he started his clinical sciences education at the Pulmonology Hospital in Kepez, Antalya.
With the establishment of Akdeniz University in 1981, its name was changed to Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine. since 1988, outpatient clinic services have been provided in the buildings on the central campus of our University. in 1991, the Department of Basic Sciences was moved from the temporary building in Topçular to its new location on campus. in 1997, all the units serving in the temporary hospital in Kepez were moved to our new hospital with 425 beds on campus. the Emergency, Trauma and Organ Transplantation Hospital with 150 beds, which was started to be built in 1998, was completed in 1999 and entered service in integrity with the main hospital.
With the C block, which was put into service in 2001, the bed capacity has reached 775. In 2005, H Block was completed and a spacious polyclinic area was created. In 2007, K Block was completed and put into service for Oncology and Physical Therapy departments. Today, 146.000 m2 of which is completed and 36.000 m2 of which is about to be completed, Akdeniz University Hospital, which has a total closed area of 182.000 m2, provides education, research and health services at western standards.There are a total of 790 beds and 218 day treatment beds. At the end of 2012, it provides 40,000 inpatient services to 800,000 outpatients annually. The University of Basic Medical Sciences has a covered area of 22.000 m2 in its library.Student Laboratories 3310 m2 Student Classrooms 2950 m2 In the classrooms and laboratories equipped with modern course materials and equipment, Problem Based Learning (PBL) sessions and interactive methods are used for theoretical and applied education.
